A Gallery of Excellence

Manchester Metropolitan University’s annual Staff Awards took on a fresh new identity in 2024, moving to a new venue within the Lowry Building. Marking the University’s 200-year anniversary, the event was designed to be more immersive and inspiring than ever, celebrating staff who had gone above and beyond in their roles. Looking for an event partner with expertise in both technical production and creative design, Mcr Met turned to Sparq to bring their vision to life.

Transforming Recognition into an Artform

Sparq delivered full event management, technical production, and creative theming to craft a truly unique experience. Inspired by the venue—named after renowned artist L.S. Lowry—we developed ‘The Gallery of Excellence’ theme, framing nominees as living masterpieces. Guests were welcomed with prosecco and a custom photo booth before stepping into a gallery-style reception, where framed portraits of shortlisted nominees lined the space. The evening continued onto the rooftop terrace, styled with gold poser tables and illuminated olive trees, before moving into the main awards ceremony.

Sparq provided lighting, sound, staging, and branded elements, from vinyl mirror graphics to custom entrance installations. Our 3D visualisations allowed MMU to see and refine the concept before the event, ensuring every detail was perfect.

A Partnership Set to Continue

With an unforgettable night of recognition and celebration delivered, Mcr Met has once again partnered with Sparq to reimagine the Staff Awards for another year. A brand-new concept is already in development, promising another stunning transformation.
